Your Credentials

Primary registry:

• RT (Radiologic Technologist) — base designation; plus modality code in parentheses
• ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) — the primary credentialing organization for RTs; passing the ARRT examination in your primary discipline is required for most employment

Modality designations (always listed in parentheses after RT):

• RT(R) — Radiographer — the foundational modality; general X-ray; required before adding most other modalities
• RT(CT) — Computed Tomography — CT scanner operation; either additional ARRT exam after R, or CT-only pathway
• RT(MR) — Magnetic Resonance Imaging — MRI scanner operation; ARRT MR registry
• RT(M) — Mammography — mammography X-ray; breast imaging; ARRT mammography registry
• RT(BD) — Bone Densitometry — DXA scan operation; ARRT BD registry
• RT(F) — Fluoroscopy — real-time X-ray imaging; GI, urology, interventional

• CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) — NMTCB designation

Ultrasound / sonography:

• ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) — primary credentialing for sonographers; note: different organization from ARRT
• RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) — ARDMS credential
• RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) — ARDMS vascular ultrasound credential
