Speech-Language Pathologist Business Cards That Build Referrals

Speech-language pathologists provide some of the most specialized clinical services in healthcare — helping individuals across the lifespan regain or develop communication, language, feeding, and swallowing function. The referral base for SLPs is highly varied: pediatricians, neurologists, ENTs, oncologists, schools, and early intervention programs.

Credentials for SLPs

  • CCC-SLP — Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association). This is the primary professional credential for SLPs and should appear after your name on your card.
  • State license — required in all states; some states require the license number on advertising materials
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence may also be noted as ASHA certification
  • Board certification if subspecialized (swallowing, fluency, AAC)

Specialty certifications worth noting:

  • BCS-S (Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders)
  • IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant — for SLPs who also support breastfeeding)
  • Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD) certification
  • PROMPT technique certified
  • SpeechEasyⓇ device fitting certified

Specialties to State Clearly

SLP is not one practice. State your specialty area(s):

Pediatric specialties:

  • Early language and communication development (birth-5)
  • Autism spectrum disorder and social communication
  • Articulation and phonological disorders
  • Childhood stuttering and fluency
  • Pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders (dysphagia)
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
  • Language-based learning disabilities

Adult specialties:

  • Stroke and TBI rehabilitation
  • Parkinson's disease (LSVT LOUD)
  • Head and neck cancer voice/swallowing rehabilitation
  • Adult stuttering and fluency therapy
  • Voice disorders (teachers, singers, professional speakers)
  • Cognitive-communication disorders
  • Adult dysphagia / videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS)

Design for SLPs

Accessible and Welcoming

SLP clients span from infants to elderly adults, and often include people in vulnerable situations (recovering from stroke, managing a disability, parenting a child with communication delays). Your card should feel:

  • Professional enough to earn physician referrals
  • Warm enough to reassure parents and caregivers

Color palette:

  • Calm teals, soft blues, warm greens (health + communication + growth)
  • Soft neutrals for pediatric focus
  • More clinical navy for adult neuro rehab

Communication-Themed Design Elements

Speech bubbles, conversation illustrations, or waveform elements can work beautifully for SLP cards — when executed well, they reinforce your specialty visually. When done poorly (generic clip art), they undercut credibility.
