Sports Medicine Physician Business Cards for Athletic Health and Injury Care

Sports medicine physicians are the specialists who keep athletes and active individuals healthy, injured athletes recovering, and performing athletes optimized — combining deep knowledge of musculoskeletal medicine, exercise physiology, nutrition science, and orthopedic concepts in a practice focused on the active body.

Two Paths in Sports Medicine

Primary Care Sports Medicine (PCSM)

Primary care physicians (family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine) can pursue a subspecialty fellowship in sports medicine:

  • CAQSM (Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine) — the primary credential for PCSM doctors
  • FAMSSM (Fellow, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine) — the most recognized credential
  • AMSSM member (American Medical Society for Sports Medicine)
  • Non-surgical: Focus on concussion management, overuse injuries, musculoskeletal ultrasound, biologics (PRP, stem cell), nutrition, exercise physiology

Orthopedic Surgery with Sports Medicine subspecialty

Orthopedic surgeons can complete sports medicine fellowships:

  • Orthopedic surgeon (MD/DO) + sports medicine fellowship
  • ABOSM (American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Subspecialty Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine)
  • AAOSM member (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons)
  • Surgical: ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, shoulder stabilization, rotator cuff, arthroscopy
