How Fast Can You Print Business Cards in Los Angeles? What to Expect Before an Event

Business card orders tend to happen in a hurry. Someone realizes two days before a networking event that they're out of cards, or they're starting a new role and need cards before their first client meeting. Here's how turnaround actually works.

The two separate timelines

Production time — the time from approved artwork to finished cards. This is the printer's internal timeline for printing, laminating, cutting, and packing.

Shipping time — the time for the order to travel from the print facility to you.

Most "rush" framing focuses on shipping but ignores production. A same-day shipping upgrade doesn't help if production still takes three days.

Typical production timelines

Standard cards (no specialty finishes): 2–4 business days after art approval.

Soft-touch or other laminate upgrades: 3–5 business days.

Specialty finishes (spot UV, foil, embossing): 5–7 business days. These require additional process steps and often have different batch schedules.

Rush production (when available): 1–2 business days for standard cards. Not always available for specialty finishes.

What slows down an order

Art not approved immediately — production doesn't start until the proof is approved. If you submit artwork on a Friday evening and don't approve the proof until Monday morning, you've lost the weekend.

Back-and-forth on design — each revision cycle adds a day or more.

Specialty finish combinations — foil + emboss orders typically can't be rushed because they require two separate finishing passes.

The fastest order path

  1. Submit print-ready artwork (correct file format, CMYK, with bleed) — eliminates the art correction step
  2. Approve the digital proof within hours of submission — don't let the proof sit
  3. Choose a standard finish for genuinely urgent orders — matte or gloss laminate on 400 gsm is production-fast
  4. Opt for local pickup in Los Angeles if available — eliminates shipping time entirely

How far in advance to order

| Situation | Recommended lead time | |---|---| | Standard card, no rush | 7–10 days before event | | Standard card, some urgency | 5 days before event | | Specialty finish | 10–14 days before event | | Specialty finish, critical deadline | Contact printer directly; may not be possible |

Advice for last-minute orders

If you're within 3 business days of your event, be realistic about what's achievable with specialty finishes. A premium soft-touch matte card might not be possible. A standard matte card absolutely can be. A great standard card beats no card.
