How 4-Color (CMYK) Printing Works
CMYK printing reproduces color by overlaying tiny halftone dots of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black ink. It's an efficient way to reproduce photographic images and designs with many colors.
The limitation is consistency. The same blue can shift slightly depending on ink density, ambient humidity, and paper stock. Enlarge a printed halftone and you can see the individual dots. CMYK also cannot reproduce fluorescent or metallic colors.
